bobby behan interview May 19th, 2009 by Nikola
Bobby leads Specialized triathlon and Specialized xc mtb teams, also manages world wide marketing for worldwide Specialized mtb. He is a busy guy - cool he took time to answer few questions:
What do you think is the future of triathlon? 10-20-100 years ahead?
Phew! I think participation levels will continue to grow across all facets of the sport, although like anything, I think at some stage it will plateau. I am not sure when that will be.
Xterra will grow, as roads become busier with traffic and the organization of road triathlon events becomes more challenging in terms of public road accessibility.
In terms of Olympic Games representation, I hope and feel triathlon will remain within the program and who knows, but there could be more triathlon events at the Olympics. Imagine Xterra at The Olympics!
Specialized is investing a lot in using athlete’s content at I am Specialized - how do you think triathlon sponsorships will develop in the future?
Currently, the global economic climate is not helping, but that too will turn around. I think more will be expected of athletes, in terms of communicating across web via video especially, which is big and becoming
bigger. It’s something we place a lot of importance on and will continue to do so.
If I am honest right now I look at more than just an athletes results. I check their websites, determine how active he or she may be and also try to determine how good they are when it comes to simply talking to age group athletes and other people who look up and aspire to what they do. That for me is very important.
Any advice for triathletes and sponsors?
Being pro-active is very important especially via web. You would be surprised at how many athletes do not communicate with sponsors. Regular communication is paramount. Simply things like sending a race report
immediately after an event is sometimes missed by not only beginners but seasoned pros.
