conrad’s race kit by miltos manetas October 5th, 2009 by Nikola
Conrad’s XTERRA World Championship race kit was designed by artist Miltos Manetas and produced by Luma Sports.

Sport is not far from art.
It is more or less the same thing: people trying very very hard to do something which makes no sense whatsoever.
Why would someone swim, bike and run?
It makes sense just as much as putting a shark in formaldehyde.
An average person is confused by both but eventually grows to love it. maybe not everybody loves XTERRA or Damien Hirst but there is something for everybody’s taste with both sport and art, always equally impractical.
Sports have merged with art for a while now. I remember target=”_blank”Keith Haring’s 1987 Cinelli Laser, and most recent is Lance Armstrong’s Stages show and Stages Trek bikes.
Conrad and Dan are sponsored by Luma Sports International - a manufacturer of custom race kits owned by Gary Mandy - and this seemed like a special opportunity to make something different.
Conrad wanted me to help with his race kit for XTERRA World Champs and I was stuck for weeks. In the last moment I saw Miltos Manetas, a good friend and really a genius artist, and asked him to help me out. He immediately said he wants to make it a JacksonPollock.org piece and in few hours we had the first prototype. It worked out very nice for Conrad, Gary and Miltos. I think it is an awesome combination of three talents which makes the event so much richer.
I am a bit worried about sponsor logos being visible and one of the versions I edited had more sponsor visibility, but I think that, as much as TV and photo visibility is important, people do know Conrad and do check his site and understand the benefit of such a project and can see value in it.
Of course for such projects to really work fully they need killer PR which triathlon does not really have… but I think we are all happy about that something pretty and different is made. I am also glad we all worked together on it, even if it was all “last moment”. Thank you!
See Conrad’s race kit at ConradStoltz.com. (I think it will be best experienced if you are in Maui for XTERRA Worlds when it works at 110%!)
There is also a special race kit for Dan but we will announce that later.
