gary mandy interview June 10th, 2009 by Nikola
Gary Mandy is Dan’s coach and part of Dan’s mySupport team (I like how Dan has special names for his sponsors and partners…) with custom cycling and triathlon race kit production Luma Sports… Interesting, diverse and busy guy, South African in Truckee… I wanted to interview him ever since I heard about him from Dan a year or more ago… Here goes…
You are a pilot, an elite coach and you started your own business - Luma Sports - recently; How is it to joggle all this together? Do you drink a lot of coffee?
Well not too bad at the moment. I hope we get busy enough at Luma to be able to focus just on that. Coffee is the first thing I think about when my eyes open each day. 10pm to 3am are my most productive hours.
How is it to coach Dan? What do you need to work on? How is your relationship?
Dan is fun to coach when he is in the USA and tough to coach when he is in the RSA. Dan thrives when we work together in Truckee. I get to see first hand when he has good and bad days as well as everything in-between. It is much easier then to modify his training so he is fast when it counts. We are working mostly on speed right now and in time we will be increasing his volume in preparation for …To Be Announced!
What is next?
For me, Grow Luma and have the best time with my girls, Gia, Ella and Taj.
