mark noble interview   June 23rd, 2009 by Nikola

Gavin has a big family: mom Mary, dad Gary, sisters Marie-Claire and Sarah-Louise, brothers Gareth and Mark.

I emailed them all with same interview questions, only Mark answered so far.

What do you think about triathlon? And about Gavin doing it?

My first experience of triathlon was watching a long distance one (not sure if it was an Ironman) in Rosses Point, County Sligo whilst on a caravan holiday when I was about 6. Even then Gavin took an interest and had the 5 Noble children helping the organisers by handing out water and mars bars on the run course - this was my first experience of Gavin getting angry on a race day as he was not impressed by the amount of mars bars i was handing out in comparison to the amount I had stored in my pockets…

Before Gavin went to University I would have been a loyal fan with my dad following him all over Ireland. Even then he loved a bit of kit and I remember one of his first sponsorship deals was with sunglasses manufacturer ‘Bolle’, however he was not too impressed when a family friend commented “Ah Bolle… I suppose bolle for a bollox eh?” needless to say he didnt wear them again…

It is quite stressful following Gavin on his race schedule, and he can be a bit grumpy when things dont go his way - but the positives definately outweigh any negatives and I personally, love going to watch him whenever I can, whether in person or as a ‘virtual fan’!

Do you like Gavin’s website?

Gav’s website is great. It certainly reflects his character and personality - it looks cool and is very funny - but at the same time reflects his personality in the way I often think - what the hell is he on about today?!?! every day is different I suppose… :)

If not triathlon, in which other sport should Gavin excel?

Gavin is lucky that he was always good at most sports he took part in, be it swimming, soccer or gaelic football. Dad still tells the story of Gavin scoring from the half way line in the last minute of the Northern Ireland Regional Finals of the Reebok 5’s (soccer) to send his “Dream Team” through to the UK finals. I still reckon I could take him in a 25m Freestyle sprint tho….
