uncontrollable press   July 9th, 2009 by Nikola

Anchorman

Last weekend Rhizome.org, an art organization from New York City, published an article featuring the triathlon team. Author of this article, Brian Droitcour, has not followed journalist protocol and has not requested any statements or information from me. During our short time together he observed me and wrote the article without any permission.

For some reason he focused on the triathlon team… putting it in a false art context.

His current pet project is Triathlon Team, which involves hosting and designing blogs for his favorite triathletes. The idea of designating a team for a purely solitary sport, and trying to make humble triathletes the subject of media attention, has the same dry, barely-there humor as his cartoonish pieces.

????

The entire article just sounds bizarre and distorted and based on primitive stereotypes.

Triathlon team is not an art project of not one person. It is a lot of hard work and collaboration between Aleksandar, Conrad, Dan, Dejan, Fraser, Gavin, Igor, Will, me and all the people who work with us and help us out. This is why we call it a team.

This has nothing to do about me nor art. The reason I switched the brand to simple triathlon team is because I did want to keep it pure and simple.

On the other front Dejan got really the most stupid press ever (link in Croatian).

He supported a small local running race and jogged it finishing 52nd. Next day newspapers printed that Croatian Ironman Record holder is so slow that he hardly finished in 52nd! Dejan was super upset all day…

Dan had similar problems this winter as well and at the moment I could not really relate to his frustration but he handled it professionally and he was right to do so.

I am not sure what exactly these journalists and editors are about, if they are on LSD or something.

If you wish to write anything about anyone please check your information and make sure people and organizations featured in your article approve what you are saying, or at least that these are facts. Everybody is more than happy to provide proper press info.

Fortunately I have never had a big run in by the press, but you are really lucky if they get all their facts (and your name) right at any one time.

Paul Kimmage was a bike racer (now a huge doper basher) and his book “Rough Ride” is the 1st book I read about doping- maybe 20 years ago. (Breaking the Chain by Willie Voet is newer and more spectacular)

About the Youtube video I have to say Lance Armstrong really has the gift of the gab. Most Americans do. But Afrikaaners are good at braaiing. (BBQ)
